Cholesterol Reduction - Great News for Tea Drinkers

Your chest feels tight. Then a pain begins. You feel short of breath and every movement makes it worse. You are experiencing a coronary. Thankfully you survive and start to think about what went wrong and to find ways of adjusting your lifestyle. You may even require bypass surgery or to be on drugs for the rest of your life. Cholesterol is a major factor leading to coronary thrombosis, one of the biggest killers in western society. Most people have heard about cholesterol and appreciate that it leads to heart disease. But what is cholesterol? Why is it dangerous and how can you reduce its harmful effects?

There are a number of fats in the bloodstream; two of the important ones are cholesterol and triglycerides. There are two main forms of cholesterol, HDP (high density lipoprotein) and LDP (low density lipoprotein). The HDP is sometimes referred to as good cholesterol but most of the cholesterol in your blood will be the more sinister LDP - it is this that needs reducing. High levels of LDP and triglycerides cause thickening, hardening and roughening of the normally elastic walls of the arteries. Where the walls have been roughened, blood cells tend to stick, building up to form a clot. The clot can grow and block the artery or be dislodged and block the blood flow elsewhere. In the brain, it is called a stroke, in the lungs, a pulmonary embolism and in the heart, a coronary. Some of the cholesterol in your blood comes from the food that you eat and some is produced by your liver as it processes the nutrients from your food. There is no simple solution to high cholesterol levels; in fact you could be genetically predisposed to high cholesterol.

A study by the Dutch suggests that tea drinkers, particularly women, may derive some protection against the build up of cholesterol in their arteries. Just one or two cups per day seemed to have a marked effect. As always with biological research, there may be other contributing factors, the Dutch team acknowledge that people who drink tea generally have a healthier lifestyle and diet. However the fairly high levels of antioxidant flavonoids in black tea are thought to protect against arterial plaques, the fatty deposits that clog arteries, by preventing fat from being deposited on artery walls. In addition, green tea seems to speed up the metabolism, including fat calorie burning, according to researchers from the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Their findings showed a small increase in daily energy expenditure when compared to a control group. It is thought that the caffeine in the tea interacts with the flavonoids in tea to increase the rate of calorie burning.

The British Medical Journal has also reported a Japanese study on the benefits of green tea consumption in preventing cardiovascular disease, liver disorders and possibly cancer. The study, in the 1990s, involved over 100 men aged over 40. Tea consumption was classified as less than 3 cups, between 4 and 9 cups, and over 10 cups per day. It was found that consumption of green tea was significantly associated with lower serum concentrations of lipids and lipoproteins. The study also found that the strong association remained unaltered after age, cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption and relative body weight were controlled for.

So in short, tea drinking is a great habit to develop, especially if it is a good quality, pure organic green tea. Not only does it taste good, it may protect your heart, reduce your chances of cancer and help to keep your weight down, all by drinking just a few cups per day!

When pregnant or nursing only small amounts of green tea or other unprocessed or partially processed teas e.g. oolong should be used, it may also interfere with the action of MAO inhibitors and blood thinning medication. Also the consumption of teas may interfere with the absorption of medicines. Check with your physician before increasing your tea consumption. This article is intended to be for information about the nutritional benefits of green tea only and should not be regarded as medical advice in its own right. You should seek the assistance of a qualified physician if you require medical advice on any condition mentioned in this article.

Halloween Celebration

Halloween is one of the most widely celebrated holidays of the year. It has become a highly commercialized media event for retailers and children everywhere!

I remember the thrills and excitement of “trick-or-treat” from the time I was only knee-high to a tombstone! We started out when it was still light and continued until long after the ghosts had been laid to rest. We would wear costumes we created ourselves and bring our own personal pillowcases to stuff full of the candy, gum, and homemade treats like popcorn balls, caramel-dipped apples, and cookies we collected from the well-wishers on Halloween night.

But the world has changed. Because of the small, unseemly elements that now persist in society, we need to be more careful about when, where, and how we celebrate a holiday such as Halloween.

Halloween used to be a time of harmless, if not annoying, children’s pranks. Now we can not even take a chance on accepting treats that are not commercially produced and professionally packaged. And we can’t even let our children out alone, let alone be out after dark.

But there are alternatives. Let me tell you about what we do.

This is a program that can be adapted and put to good use by any local church group, service club (like Lions, Rotary, etc.), or “Boy’s and Girl’s Club. It is a program involving three basic parts that can begin and end before it even gets dark outside, if you want.

(1) Serve a light meal

(2) Play Games and Activities

(3) “Trunk-R-Treat”

Light Meal:

Prepare and serve the group of children something like hot dogs or sloppy joes (you may use our family recipe below), with chips and apple juice. This is easy to prepare and serves quickly. It is simple to control and clean up, too.

Sloppy Joes (Ronwen’s Untidy Josephs)

1 1/2 lbs. Ground Beef

1 Onion

1 Green Pepper

2 Tbsp. Worchestershire Sauce

C. Brown Sugar

1/3 C. Ketsup

1 can Tomato Soup

Brown ground beef with onion and green pepper. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer, and serve on hamburger buns.

Games and Activities:

Here you can let your imagination run wild! There is ring toss, ball toss, and balloon toss. There simple games of skill like relay races, sack races, etc. Think about the typical family reunion type of games and adapt them to the Halloween theme. All you need are enough activities to keep the children busy for about 30 minutes.

Here is a link you may find useful in planning your games and activities: http://family-reunion.com/games.htm.

“Trunk-R-Treat”:

This is usually set up in the parking lot where parents, teachers, and local officials have their cars lined up with their trunks facing together. The trunks are open and decorated in a festive Halloween decor. The adults them distribute candy from their trunks as the children pass them by.

Halloween is really a celebration for children and the young at heart. It is a “spooky” and magical occasion that can still be participated in safely, if we take the necessary steps to “make it so”.

Use your imagination, have fun, and enjoy the joyful elements of the Halloween holiday!

Miscellaneous Racing Sports

Racing is a sport that has been in existence literally for thousands of years. It’s certainly progressed since the days of the chariot races in ancient Greece but the drive behind racing still remains the same. When people race, regardless if it’s cars, boats, horses or themselves they do it to win. Being declared the fastest is the ultimate goal.

Races have progressed significantly since their inception. History shows that the first races were on foot; two or more men racing one another to determine which was the fastest. We still have foot races today and they can be incredibly competitive with challengers vying for the prestige of Olympic gold medals.

Races involving cars have gained popularity in recent years. Motor sports fans can attest the fact that watching a Formula One or NASCAR race can get the blood pumping. The drivers race at breakneck speeds with an incredible amount of precision. Bleachers full of fans take in the races and millions more watch from their homes as men and women get behind the wheel of cars and try to out race each other.

There are many different types of car racing and another fan favorite is rally racing. Rally racing involves cars racing around on regular city roads. This type of racing is challenging for the driver because during each race they are confronted with a course that is unfamiliar to them. One of the aspects of rally car racing that makes it unique is that it’s done year round. Races occur in every type of weather and climate isn’t really an issue. The cars are specifically designed for the race and the drivers concentrate on moving from point-to-point within the course.

Another popular type of racing involves wheels but only two. Motorbike racing is a fast growing sport and those interested aren’t just the younger crowd. There are several different variations of motorbike racing. One is called motocross in which the participants take to the dirt. They run a challenging obstacle type course with their motorbikes, including handling difficult turns and jumps. Most motocross racing is on the amateur level and there are even courses specifically designed for the youth driver.

The other type of motorbike racing is done on asphalt. Some of these are amateur races between people who want to see how well their bike outperforms the competition’s. Others are men and women who have developed their riding skills for years in preparation for a specific race. Motorbike races are held in different venues all over the world, with some of the prize money being considerable.

Some types of racing have human influence but the brunt of the speed is supplied by another type of animal. Horse racing is a prime example of this. Horse racing has been an interest of people for centuries. One of the most popular types of horse racing is thoroughbred racing. Generally, thoroughbred racing involves a long track that the horse sprints down. In this type of racing there is a jockey who is specially trained to guide the horse to victory. This is the most well-known form of horse racing and what most people are referring to when they say they are “going to the races.”

Another type of horse racing involves more than a straight sprint. The horse in this instance has to overcome not just a track but obstacles that include turns and jumps as well. This is termed National Hunt Racing and is most widely seen in the United Kingdom.

Racing whether its by foot, automobile or animal is a sport that will never fade into oblivion. We are fascinated with speed and love to see people challenging each other to perform at their highest possible levels

Why Do You Gamble?

Why do people gamble? I have heard a variety of answers:
For fun, taking the chance to win some or even a lot of money,
to run away and forget about problems for just a little while
and because they are lonely.

People go to gamble because they either feel lucky or hope to be lucky.

Why do you gamble? And more, are you honest with yourself when you gamble?

We tend to use these two words interchangeably, as in,

“I want to win” or “I desire to win”.

“I want/desire to be happy.”

Same thing, right? But what is your mental state when you use these words?

Where is your attention? Are you even aware that you are underlining something that is NOT happening in your life?
(the word “want” literally means “lack” or “to be without”)

Gambling is labelled as an addiction along with drinking, using drugs and smoking
Yet casinos encourage people to gamble.

I do want you to have free will to gamble. Do it with your head.
Be in charge.

Create the image of success in your mind before you even log on to a casino.

“Positive Thinking” is the popular term. However, that does not mean mouthing a lot of cheerful sentences, such as, “Everything is going to be all right.”

Everything will not be all right until you achieve a conscious awareness of that it IS allright. A lot of so-called positive thinking is little more than wishful thinking, voicing many words that you really don’t believe.

If that is the case, it will not WORK for you! Then you are wasting your time and money.

Play within your budget.

Set aside an amount that you can afford to spend.
Do not play with money that you set aside for paying your accounts.

If you gamble for ten minutes and it is not going well, WALK AWAY!
Yes, you heard me. Walk away.

Switch to playing for fun for awhile if you really need to play.
You will receive the same kick than playing for real money, even if in diluted form.

Anything with the word “TOO” in it is wrong.
If you gamble TOO much, you are taking away from other things or people in your life.

In blind faith, allowing free will.

How to Make Money from Affiliate Ebooks Without Selling Them

The standard way to make money from Ebooks is to sell them to our website visitors and our mailing list.

But what if we don’t have many website visitors, and don’t have a huge mailing list?

How do we sell them? And is selling the Ebook the only way to make money out of them?

This series of articles will be in three parts:

Part one: How to make money from Affiliate Ebooks without selling them.

Part two: How to use Ebooks and Ebay to build your mailing list.

Part three: How to use Ebooks to drive more visitors to your site.

First, let’s look at some other ways to make money from Ebooks.

One way is to give them away! But how does that make money for me? You may ask!

Let’s say we have an Ebook that we acquired from someone else and we have full re-sale rights.

Inside this Ebook there are usually one or two, (maybe more) active links to the affiliate program that we got the Ebook from.

These links will be traceable links to either the affiliate that sold or gave us the Ebook or the owner of the Affiliate program.

Now if we click on one of those links and go to the affiliate program, find something we need and buy it! Who gets the commission for the sale?

The person that gave/sold us the Ebook!

Now we can just sell the Ebook and make a few dollars, but if we want more money we have to sell more Ebooks, right? The answer is yes and no.

Let’s look at us selling more Ebooks first, we sell more and make a little bit more money, those Ebooks are going to go out to more people, which might click on the link in it, when they do, who gets the commission on any sales? The answer is the affiliate who gave/sold us the Ebook.

It’s plain to see who is leveraging and earning more money for less effort isn’t it?

So what we do is become an affiliate! Then go about the business of giving our Ebook away to as many people as possible, who will then try to sell it to others, who will in turn do the same, etc… so this way WE are the ones using leverage, and making more money!

But wait a minute! Why would anyone want to do that for us, wouldn’t they think like us and become an affiliate? The answer is YES! That’s the idea!

Now, they join as an affiliate through us, and put their affiliate URL in the Ebook and then they promoted as vigorously as we did! This is the ultimate goal for us! BECAUSE, they joined the affiliate program through us, they are now a “second tier” in our affiliate account.

So now, not only do we get a large percentage in commission from anyone that buys something through our affiliate link in the Ebooks we promote, but we also get a small percentage for any sales generated by our second tier!

This can go on and on depending on the particular affiliate program, but it’s plain to see the “viral effect” this would have on our affiliate link.

Many people will be willing to add our Ebook to their emailing list as a way of adding value to their customers, if it’s free then why not! This will send our links all over the planet, along with the steps outlined above.

This is one way that Ebooks can be used to make money, there are many, many other ways, so we should always think about other ways and means to leverage our efforts this is the secret to successful marketing.

E-Sourcing - Choosing the Right Tool and Category is Vital to Success

e-Sourcing is the use of internet technology used by purchasing professionals to find suppliers and negotiate prices or reduce cost for a wide range of goods and services. A variety of online negotiation tools are used - including RFI (Request for Information, RFQ (Request For Quotation), RFP (Request for Proposal) and electronic auctions.

It is important to understand when and how each should be used to achieve the best results. Incorrect use can bring about unsatisfactory experiences and can lead to “bad press” for e-Sourcing.

This article focuses on the criteria which should be applied to determine the most appropriate e-sourcing tool to use.

Strategic importance of the category

An auction is generally recommended for those products with a high value and a minimum or small risk. High spend, low complexity is the ideal scenario for this type of price negotiation. The level of spend which will attract suppliers will differ from category to category but as a rough benchmark we generally look at spend over £150,000.
In nearly all other cases, requests for quotations (RFQ), requests for proposals (RFP) manual negotiations will be much more appropriate.

Is the specification clearly defined?

Clear and unambiguous requirements must be specified so that suppliers are competing on a ‘like for like’ basis and not working to different assumptions. A clear set of requirements (commercial, technical, logistical etc) will allow suppliers to work out the cost of servicing the account prior to the auction. If requirements cannot be clearly specified then the RFP is likely to be more appropriate.

Are the market conditions favourable?

An auction requires competition in the marketplace. The more potential suppliers there are available, the more likely a good auction result will be achieved. Also consider the marketplace dynamics - are there new entrants eager to win market share? How profitable is this sector to suppliers? Depending on the category these conditions may change quite frequently so holding the auction at the right time is crucial. If the category does not pass this test, other sourcing strategies will be more appropriate and will probably involve the need to work closely with suppliers to secure supply and will focus less on price but on total cost.

Cost/risk of changing supplier low?

A category may not be suitable for auction if the time taken to change supplier, the risks associated with change or the cost of changeover is high. Switching costs should be clearly understood in relation to the length and value of the contract.

It is possible to auction certain complex categories but this is generally done after a thorough tender / requirements definition process has been undertaken. This ensures that both parties understand the cost and implications of doing business. Good e-sourcing platforms will cover both the tender and auction aspects and allow suppliers who have passed the non-price evaluation be ‘rolled over’ into the final auction.

In summary, e-sourcing can bring considerable benefits to optimising purchasing costs. Certain categories will work well by simply running an auction, other categories will require a more detailed tender process and others will rely on more traditional purchasing techniques. By considering the criteria above, buyers should be able to make an informed decision.

Lisa Bryan is a director of e-sourcing solutions provider Select Sourcing Ltd. She has worked in the field of procurement for many years having ‘hands on’ experience in industry (private and public sector) and in consulting. She has been working in the emerging field of e-sourcing for the past 5 years. The team at Select Sourcing have delivered over 350 e-auctions and projects across a wide range of direct and indirect categories.

Tattoo Aftercare Shouldn’t Be An After Thought

Black Cat Tattoo Aftercare was developed in February 2000 by Kristin Gunn who as an avid tattoo collector was tired of tattoo artists telling her to put stuff on her tattoo for healing that was full of chemicals and pore clogging ingredients.

Kristin quickly sought the expertise of Professional Tattoo Artists, along with the help of a licensed Chemist and also a family member who just happened to be an Herbalist.

After surveying the options at the local store and witnessing what was for sale in the tattoo aftercare market, we quickly realized that there was nothing but total junk available to the consumer.

Black Cat Tattoo Aftercare was born and we came up with an amazing recipe that worked 100% correctly the very first time we made a batch. Owning a tattoo shop made it easy to test our new concoction on numerous willing customers who were amazed at the rapid healing and anti-itch qualities of our cleanser / salve combo.

Soon we had people from all over town dropping by to get their hands on our salve and tattoo cleanser. Black Cat never really advertises, so the information was spread by the good word of the tattoo artists, lending credibility to us along the way. We even had one of the biggest tattoo aftercare companies try to buy us out in 2002 after feeling the pressure from our awesome products!

Tattoo Aftercare

Our little company has grown from a studio in the back of Kristin’s house to a full size warehouse in South Austin, Texas supplying to more than 8 countries and hundreds of satisfied tattoo artists and shops. We are still tattoo artist owned and operated. We also insist on making our own products daily with the freshest of natural ingredients (instead of farming out to a laboratory like so many others.)

Black Cat Tattoo Aftercare
offers high quality premium tattoo aftercare products. 100% natural, free of parabens and other synthetic ingredients, Vegan approved and cruelty free.

Black Cat Tattoo Aftercare is clawing it’s way to a Tattoo Shop near you. We are winning over new tattoo artists and shops every day. We’re showing the big companies that there is still a lot to be said for excellent customer service, quick shipping, affordable pricing, hand made quality and all natural tattoo care products.
