Publicity - What Every Business Needs To Know

Businesses from all over the world are always searching for
ways to get more publicity. You can let thousands of people
know about your service, your store, or your new products
without paying a penny.

Whether you want to make more sales, or get an offer on
television, you can broaden the scope of your clients by
free publicity. You don’t have to send up huge banners
flying behind airplanes to attract attention. In fact, with
just a telephone, internet access, follow up letters and
flyers, you can be making much more money than you are.

What product or business are you involved with that needs
more clients or customers? You might have a neighborhood
store, or you might be seeking exposure for a celebrity or
politician. Maybe you have a new invention that you can’t
get marketed or a recently released line of designer
furniture that you want to increase sales on.

How are you presently getting to customers? You may be
advertising in newspapers and magazines or trade journals.
Or you may be relying on a distribution agreement to retail
the products your plant manufactures.

Perhaps you’re an author depending on a publishing house to
promote your book. Or you could be a young comic, trying to
get some more acts to further your career.

Regardless of your business or enterprise, free publicity
is available to you. And you don’t need any particular
back ground or training to do it. What you do need is the
belief in yourself and your product and the diligence and
perseverance to continue when one idea doesn’t pan out.

Whether you want a local increase in sales, or national
fame, free publicity is available to you at all times.

First, publicity is making something known to the public,
spreading information to the general local or national
market. It is information with a news value used to attract
public attention or support. Everybody utilizes publicity.
Politicians, manufacturers, celebrities even car makers use
publicity to further their causes and gain attention.

And publicity isn’t limited to large organizations. Small
committees and enterprises use the local newspapers to
publicize events.

Publicity differs from advertising because it is free.
Although some groups or individuals do trade tickets or
services for free mention in publications, generally
publicity is newsworthy copy that a publication produces.

Publicity is a form of promotion, although promoting a
product or service may require other efforts that cost the
company money. Good publicity is one of the best ways to
let people know you have a worthwhile business.

In order to gain publicity, you have to be totally familiar
with your product, service or business that you are
promoting. If it is your own product, you are the best one
to describe the benefits and features. If you want to
publicize something else, talk to everyone involved to get
the facts and details.

Consider the radius of your market. If you have a local
business such as a small store or service shop, most of
your customers are from the surrounding five miles. If you
are located in a large city, you may have a larger radius,
but at the same time there may be stiffer competition.

Your business might be regional or statewide and your
clients may come from hundreds of miles, either in person
or by telephone to use your services. And if you are a
large manufacturer, your clients and customers may come
from the entire United States or you may have a worldwide
audience.

Profile your customers. Who are they and what do they do?
If you have a service, how often is this service used? If
you have a product, is it something that is bought again
and again, or is it a lifetime purchase?

How much do your customers pay for your products and are
you competitive with the other manufacturers of the same
products? If you have an unusual product, are you reaching
the widest audience you can?

What do the customers want? Sometimes, the least expensive
price is not the most important element. With today’s
packaging, many customers expect and will pay for things
elaborately packaged. Where do these people go to buy your
products? Are they sold at retail outlets or through trade
publications or magazines? Or are they special items
available from online web sites or from certain regions of
the nation or the world?

Finally, why do your customers buy this particular service
or product, or use the particular business you have? An
architectural design company produces blueprints for
architects to construct buildings for homeowners and
industry. But your product may be aimed at a less precise
group of people, somewhat hard to define.

You can discover what consumers want from surveys. You can
get copies of surveys from special companies that conduct
surveys, or you can do your own. The best place to conduct
a survey is at a trade show for your product. Another good
source is your own email list or offline mailing list.

You might run a drawing and ask people to fill in
information. You can have cards printed with boxes to check
easily so people will spend the time to answer your
questions.

Manufacturers use surveys with warranties. Appliance makers
often include a few questions along with the warranty that
the consumer sends back.

Most major manufacturers have their own teams of product
testing. Toy makers bring in children and watch their
reactions. Book publishers have people look at covers and
decide which they’d buy. Even the car manufacturers run
surveys and opinion testing on style and pricing.

Before you seek publicity or even advertise, Know your
Product First! Be familiar with the people who buy your
products or services, and have a full understanding of the
general competition and the full scope of your market.

Encouraging Debt

Most of us don’t talk about money, finances, credit, debt….Young people especially go into the real world blind about these issues. They have had it easy or difficult growing up financially. Some kids use their parents credit cards or are even issued one. Some don’t have anything above the necessities. Then some “EARN” an allowance and are taught to spend conservatively. I think all of us have a responsibility to steer them in the right direction.

It is necessary to establish credit. Choose, for example a reputable credit card company. Often this can be obtained through the credit union or bank where an account has been active. Carefully read all of the disclosure. Pay close attention to the interest, grace periods and penalties. Most importantly, spend the way you always have and absolutely no more. Charge one or two of the usual expenses and be sure to pay the bill on time. This creates the needed credit and good score to buy bigger things.

Credit is a good thing in some ways. But as we all know it is more often a problem. One problem is people lose control of spending. I think there’s something psychological that makes it easier to sign a piece of paper than to write a check or whip out the cash. One is your money, the other doesn’t seem to be. The worst part of being up to your eyeballs in debt is that it snowballs quickly and usually hopelessly. There are debt reduction programs and free consultation services and unfortunately bancruptcy. But it’s easier not to get there. Another problem is bad credit on the report that’s incorrect. Amazingly this happens very often and consumers aren’t usually aware of it until they apply for something. It pays to check about once a year. If something is in error it’s usually not difficult to get it corrected.

I had a young man (19) come to see me yesterday. He said he wanted to buy a house and no one would pay attention to him. What a sad statement. He has belonged to his credit union for years. He has rented a house for a year and paid the utilities. He’s a certified mechanic who took first place in the state. He has worked in the same field for several years. That’s more stability than I’ve seen in some forty year old people. John went to the credit union and spoke to someone in the mortgage department. I’m fairly confident it went well and I will find him a good property and a good deal because I know him and I’m proud of him. I think he was hesitant to talk to me because his mom and I are best friends. I wish the other people had treated him with the respect this young man deserves.

How To Do Body Wrap At-Home

The body wrap is a beauty treatment that helps you tone up and tighten your body, improve your body circulation and detoxify your body. There are many spas that offer different types of body wraps like chocolate, aloe Vera, seaweed body wrap, etc. Body wraps basically work in two stages through absorption and squeezing. By wrapping the body, the pores get opened and fluids are extracted or absorbed by the wrap. This stage is called the absorption stage of the body wrap. Once the fluids are extracted, empty pockets are left in between the cells that when squeezed together, makes the body thinner and leaner than before. This is called the squeezing stage.

Now, not everyone has the time and the patience to go to the spa to get a body wrap done. This is when you should give yourself a partial or full body wrap in the privacy in your home with the help of home body wraps. Not only do you save time in this way, you also save money as the kit basically costs about 1/3 of what a salon may charge for the same wrap!

When applying a body wrap at home, it is necessary to choose a place in your house where you will not be disturbed for an hour. You need some space where you can lie down comfortably. To do this, you can put a camping mattress on the floor, or a plastic sheet to avoid any. Once this is ready, keep some towels handy to wipe yourself after the body wrap and a blanket to wrap yourself warm, if needed.

The next step lies in mixing the body wrap and smearing in onto the body, as you would a suntan lotion. Then the blankets have to be wrapped around your body. Sit in this wrap for half an hour to one hour, and then when you wash yourself, you are sure to be happy looking at your body that has become more slimmer and compact. However, there are some tips to be kept in mind when applying a body wrap.

It is always better to have a warm shower before applying the wrap as this opens the pores of the body and facilitates better absorption of the body wrap. The thermal blanket can be used to keep yourself warm if you feel cold with the body wrap on. It is always better to drink lots of water both before and after the body wrap helps in flushing the toxins out. It is also advisable to stay away from caffeine, soda drinks, sugar, fried fatty foods and alcohol for 48 hours after the body wrap, to experience a better effect from the body wrap.

Improve Your Tennis with 2 Subconscious Questions

What I am about to share with you is the most common and potentially disastrous question any tennis player, coach or parent can ask - and the two questions you should ask instead.

First, here’s a basic understanding of the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind accepts whatever is delivered to it. It has no ability to reject ideas or information. What you think and say becomes the programming from which your subconscious operates from. It runs on the fuel YOU give it.

One challenge though…

Too often the subconscious receives awful instructions. As a result, the tennis you are currently playing is based on the programming contained within your subconscious mind.

Any person knows that you cannot play great tennis with poor instruction from a coach. What happens when the poor instruction comes from your own mind?

The most commonly asked question after a mistake or a loss (from players - and dare I say even some coaches and parents) is “What did you do wrong?” or “What happened?” Have you noticed that nobody ever asks, “What happened?” after you win. The answer to “What did you do wrong” creates a mental picture or re-run of the errors performed to the point where the mind can only see how to make an error or lose a tennis match.

The worst part about searching for what you did wrong is that it becomes a mental habit. Your focus is always looking for the “wrong”. Ultimately your subconscious becomes programmed to repeat your failures - automatically.

How do you change it? Ask the two questions that I encourage every tennis player to consistently ask themselves - “What did I do right?” and “How can I improve…?”

“To play better tennis you must think better thoughts, regardless of circumstances. This is the art of becoming non - judgemental.”

Challenge yourself the next time you make an error to answer the 2 questions that will program your subconscious for “Automatic Success”. It is easy to focus on results and circumstances. You must learn to think hard and look for what you did right.

The very shot you missed is one you have probably made a thousand times. There’s no need for reprimands over one error when you contain the greatest computer the world has ever known between your two ears. Your subconscious will do what you ask it to do. Your job is to program it with the “right” stuff before you infect it with a virus that could shutdown your game.

Above Ground Pools - Make an Informed Choice

Nothing is more fun and inviting than a backyard pool. Beating the summer heat with family and friends is one of summertime’s biggest pleasures. With the huge popularity of above ground swimming pools this major backyard water feature is not only fun but affordable.

Getting the right pool for your home and budget can be a daunting affair. So many choices and such odd terminology; hopper bottom, skimmer, return lines, cove etc. It’s not really that hard to cut through the noise and find the above ground pool that’s right for you.

Above ground pools come in two shapes; round and oval. These shapes are available in a number of sizes that most manufacturers sell. The most popular size is the 24 ft. round pool but round pools are available in diameters from 12 ft. to 33 ft. Oval pools usually start in the 12 ft. by 20-24 ft. size and get as large as 21 ft. x 41 ft. The area for your pool and your budget will combine to suggest the size that will work best. The ideal pool location will get at least 6-8 hours of sun during the summer and should be as flat and unobstructed as possible. Trees in particular can be troublesome if too close to a pool. Power lines or telephone poles are right out! Keep in mind that many oval pools have side supports or buttresses that can jut out as much as 2-3 feet from the base of the pool. Some newer oval designs have done away with buttresses that allows oval pools to go where ovals have never gone before.

Above ground pools are nearly always made of either steel or resin/plastic. Steel pools have been around for more than 40 years. Resin pools are relative newcomers. Corrosion is always a problem with steel pools and resin pools definitely will not rust. Resin pools generally cost more but industry figures put the average life span of an above ground pool at between 4 and 5 years. Rust may not be a factor! The choice is yours. Pools have gotten deeper in recent years. The standard 48 inch high pool is now overtopped by 52 inch and even 54 inch tall models.

To hold water, your pool needs a vinyl liner. There is a large selection of patterns from simple blue to exotic looking tile motifs and even a liner that mimics a tropical reef complete with fish and coral! Most pool packages are sold with an overlap style liner. These liners wrap over the top of the pool wall and cling to the outside of the pool. The liner is held in place by the top rail. You will also see beaded liners. These snap into a thin receiving strip just under the top rail on the inside of the pool and eliminate the overlap. Beaded liners tend to be an upgrade and cost more but they are usually a heavier, 25 gauge vinyl rather than the 20 gauge common in overlap liners.

The most important purchase after the pool itself is the filtration system. If you make an informed choice your pool will run cleaner and be less work. Sand and cartridge filters are the usual choices available for above ground pools. Each has advantages and drawbacks. Filter sand is inexpensive but if neglected can turn nasty and sand filters are a chore to clean and re-fill. Cartridge filters require less maintenance but cartridges do wear out and can cost over $200.00 to replace.

The heart of any pool filtration system is the pump. A good pump, properly matched to the size of your pool will give many years of dependable service. Don’t buy too much power. Pools need to have clean filtered water not imitate Old Faithful. Most above and many in-ground pools work well with no more than a 1 hp. pump and motor combination. Small to mid-size above ground pools do well with hp units. Proper pump sizing will use less electricity and less wear on hoses and filters.

Garden Soil Preparation for the Backyard Gardener

Planting a backyard garden can be a fun and rewarding experience if you approach the planning and preparations aspect of gardening in the right way - but a lack of planning and preparation can cause your hard work in the hot summer months to yield mediocre results (if any) at the end of the growing season.

Perhaps somewhere in the world, the key to successful gardening is simply dropping a handful of seeds into the ground and watching them spring up. But most garden soils require careful attention and preparation.

Choosing a Plot
A common mistake among beginning and experienced gardeners alike is to plant more than they can possibly care for. A successful vegetable garden plot does not need to be big. A small, well-tended garden will grow as much or more produce than a larger one that the owner cannot keep up with.

Backyard gardeners should choose a sunny spot where water is readily available. Most vegetables do best in full sun if possible, but at a minimum, your garden should get at least 6 hours of sun a day.

Try to select a spot with good, rich soil. Good garden soil is deep, loose, fertile, well drained, rich in organic material and has a neutral pH. The ideal garden soil composition is about 5% organic matter, 25% air, 25% water, and 45% mineral matter. If you are planting a garden in a desert area with naturally not fertile soil, plan on working to improve the soil that is there.

Prepare your soil
Although organic material is only 5% of the “ideal formula” for good growing soil, applying the right organic matter to your soil can make worlds of difference.

Nearly all soils, whether clay, sandy or humus, benefit from the addition of organic matter. Spread a layer of organic matter two to three inches thick over the soil surface and incorporate it six to eight inches deep. Organic matter breaks up clay allowing for air and water circulation, and helps hold water in sandy soils. Good sources of organic matter include straw, twigs, leaves, peat moss, sawdust, grass clippings and well-rotted manure.

Organic matter will tie up nitrogen as it decays. Add nitrogen fertilizer to the organic matter to aid in the decomposition process. This addition of nitrogen is not intended to aid future plant growth, but to act as a facilitator to help in decomposition. More nitrogen fertilizer will be required when you begin planting. You’ll want to use one pound of ammonium sulfate, or 2/3 pound of ammonium nitrate, or pound of urea for each inch of organic matter placed on one hundred square feet of soil. As a word of caution, if you are using well-rotted manure for organic matter, reduce the amount of nitrogen fertilizer you apply by one half.

Tilling
Finally, before you are ready to plant, the soil should be tilled thoroughly. Tilling breaks up hard soil and allows air to circulate around the roots of your plants. Us a tiller, shovel or fork to churn the soil at least eight inches deep. Do not try to till your soil too early in the spring before the soil has had a chance to dry out a bit. Tilling muddy soil only causes mud clods that choke tender roots of needed air and water.

Once your soil is ready, consult your local extension or the back of your seed packets for the proper time to plant your garden fruits and vegetables.

By following these simple preparatory steps before you plant, you will increase your chances of having a bountiful harvest at the end of the growing season. Good luck and happy gardening!

Cooking Tips - 5 Ways to Create Magic in the Kitchen

Cooking Secret No.1 - Buy Top Quality Ingredients

Leading chef’s only use the freshest and best tasting food they can find. Even the best chefs in the world would have difficulty making food taste good from inferior products. However, this does not mean everything has to be made from scratch.

When buying pre-prepared goods always go for quality and freshness. If cost is an issue try smaller portions. It is better for your waistline and your health to have small servings of good quality food rather than a large serving of an inferior product.

A helpful tip when using frozen or canned goods is to use them up as soon as possible. Don’t wait until they are near the end of their shelf life, as there is already deterioration in quality by then.

Cooking Secret No.2 - Keep it Simple

Some of the best tasting meals in the world are the simplest. I find that they have fewer ingredients but just compliment each other superbly.

Adding too many ingredients to a dish can create a canceling of flavors. Like when making pasta sauce, where the onion in the dish overrides the garlic flavor. I prefer not to add onion to my pasta sauces so the full flavor of the garlic can be brought out.

The opposite is the case when making French Onion Soup. For a fuller bodied onion flavor, don’t add garlic.

Cooking Secret No.3 - Use Complimentary Foods

A secret to cooking well lies in combining complimentary foods, where one ingredient actually enhances the flavor of the other. One of my favorite combinations is tomato and basil. Whether you’re making a pasta sauce or just putting tomato on a pizza nothing compliments it better than the herb basil.

Another great mix is oats, brown sugar and cinnamon. Whether I’ve used this complimentary combination for an apple crumble topping or just for hot oatmeal it creates an unbeatable flavor

You can come up with more of your own complimentary food groups simply by taking note of what foods taste great together!

Cooking Secret No.4 - Use only the Best Equipment

Good equipment makes your work in the kitchen a breeze. Ask any craftsman and he will tell you the value of good tools. Go for quality, ease of use and buy the best that you can afford. If there were only one thing I would recommend investing in, it would be to get a good knife set and keeping them sharp.

Good tools not only make your life easier in the kitchen but can also improve the final result, like in the case of my stainless steel cooking pots. Everything I cook in them comes out better than average simply because the cooking utensils are better than average.

Cooking Secret No.5 - Collect Good Recipes

Good recipes can come from many sources other than a cookbook or finding them online. Most of my favorite ones have actually come from family and friends. The benefit of obtaining recipes this way is that I have usually been able to taste them for myself beforehand. Live cooking demonstrations sometimes offer free samples so that you can test to see if the recipe suits your taste.

Televised cooking shows and magazines are another way to collect good recipes. I keep organized by putting any loose-leaf recipes I collect in a plastic leaflet file folder.

I’m glad to have been able to share my easy to follow secrets for creating cooking magic. Remember that being selective and keeping it simple are the two main ingredients to creating magic in the kitchen.

Happy Cooking!

Discover How to Avoid the State Home Theft Scandal!

On the evening of Saturday 4th February 2006, my wife and I went
out with a couple of our friends to our local Pizza Express.
Anyway, over dinner they were telling us the shocking and
scandalous story about how an elderly couple was forced to sell
their homes when the husband developed an illness requiring long
term care.

Apparently, these two individuals have worked hard, paid their
taxes and with prudence have accumulated assets of more than
£12,250. Ok, let’s face it, that is not a fortune these days.
Sadly, enough for their access to care to be means tested.

It turned out that these two frail individuals were means tested
and were found to own assets at well over £12,250. Consequently,
the wife was evicted and their property was sold to pay for his
care.

I was disgusted. I could not understand how the establishment
can treat its senior citizens so callously in our so-called
civilised society. How can people who have led a productive and
prudent life be penalised for having built a modest buffer. More
importantly, was there anything that could be done to help
others avoid this awful trap?

I heard how a retired businessman stumbled across this same
problem and how he invested a lot of his time and money to do
something about it. I acquired details of his research and
findings which, incidentally, concluded that if you own your
property jointly with a spouse or partner, you are a sitting
duck for the eviction squad.

My wife and I, like most people who are married or live
together, own our house jointly because it is the right and
responsible thing to do. Big mistake! Unfortunately, in law,
when you own a house jointly with your spouse/partner, you own
it jointly and severally. Basically, you both own the whole of
the house - not half each, but both 100%. What this means is
that if the house is assessed to pay for residential care, the
portion of the house that the person needing the care owns is
what’s taken into account. And how much do you think that is?

Well, it is 100%, ALL OF IT!

So, if you or your partner needs long term care, you’ll be
forced to sell up if you don’t have the cash to pay - and the
remaining partner will be left effectively homeless.

Frightening, disgusting, but absolutely true.

There is a simple solution, but hardly anyone knows, or thinks
about it. By the way, although my wife and I are in our fifties,
we are utilising this simple solution to remove the risk for us.
You too can do the same, to find out how you can get this
solution for FREE you need to visit

“In our way of life, in our government, with every decision

plant our feet carefully because we know the faces of our
future generations are looking up at us from beneath the

Tips on How to Choose the Right Holiday Hotel

After you have decided on a destination for your holiday, the
next question that arises is how to find the perfect hotel for
your stay.

The first thing you have to do is to start planning your trip in
advance to avoid the unhappy situation of not being able to find
vacancy because it is the peak of the tourist season.

While looking for the perfect hotel, keep in mind that the price
may be a good clue about the quality of the services offered by
hotels. You don’t have to stay in the most expensive hotel, but
there is always a fishy reason why a hotel has a very low price.
Compare the prices to those practiced in the region you will
travel, and not to the hotel prices at home. Keep in mind to
stay away from bargains!

The location of the hotel is crucial too. You should check it in
advance, even double-check it on different web sites, to make
sure the hotel resides where is says it is. And make sure you
get full and accurate information on the location. For instance,
if the hotel’s web site says it is 5 minutes walk from the train
station, make sure you understand which train station is that,
as many big cities have 2 train stations, far away from each
other. You might end up sleeping blocks away from the place you
thought u would sleep!

Don’t really trust the rooms or hotels pictures advertised over
internet websites. You might not ever find the lovely room with
a view to the ocean you saw on the website, you might not even
find the same building they advertised! Photos can easily be
altered so it would be a good idea to go to a travel agency;
pretend you need their services and ask information about the
hotel.

The stars rating system should help you get a good idea about
the quality and comfort of a hotel. But since this system is so
relative, and it differs from one area to another, the best
thing is to do some research yourself. Ask your friends about
any information on the hotels in the area you want to travel.
Check different travel websites; focus on those that have
forums, where tourists usually display their holiday impressions.

The best method of checking out the accuracy of the information
is to call the prospective hotel and pretend to be an awkward
tourist with strange requests. Ask questions and see how the
staff is handling the situation. If they are polite and try to
satisfy your requests, the hotel seems a good one. If they get
upset, give a false identity and don’t spend your vacation
there. It would be a good idea to make two phone calls; one in
the evening to make sure no disco music is being heard in the
background (you want to do some sleeping during your vacation,
right?) and another call in the daytime to check that no
construction site is nearby (it may sound paranoid but you will
thank me later!).

And don’t forget to post your opinion on the hotel and the
region after your holiday. It will help other tourists chose the
right hotel and will spare them the trouble of doing too much
tiring research!
