BT to Change Free Evening Landline Calls Timings

BT is set to revise its rates and plans from this April, after which customers will be able to make free calls in the evening only from 7 pm, instead of the present 6 pm. The day time calling period will begin from 7 am in place of the current 6 am, which means customers will have an extra hour of calling in the morning.

However, if some media reports are to be believed the changes may prove to be a hassle for customers, since most of them are quite unlikely to have read BT’s change notification sent to them in letters and emails.

At present, BT has about 10 million customers who have registered for the free evening calls package. However, after the new plans are introduced, only Anytime package users will be left untouched.

BT has defended its move by saying it is a consumer-friendly deal. A BT spokesperson said the company found that 6 pm to 7 pm is a busy time for callers who usually make short calls, while most people talk more between 8 pm and 9 pm.

“Important information about your BT service”, the change notification sent by BT to its customers makes it clear that the company is changing its rates as well as the terms and conditions of service from April 1, 2010. Its also mentions that the evening call period will begin from 7 pm and end at 7 am, replacing the existing 6 pm-6 am period.

The company has also planned a boost in the standard daytime call rates from 5.4p per minute to 5.9p per minute for subscribers outside BT Basic, Light User Scheme and In-Contact Plus packages.

What Is VoIP and Will It Work With My Pink Princess Rotary Phone?

Let’s be honest, if you’re still using a pink Princess rotary phone, the explosion in communication technology has really passed you by and you’ve got a major learning curve to overcome. But if your only association with the Princess phone is viewing it in faded pictures from your on-line family photo album, VoIP could have a place in your life.

For those new to this acronym, VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol - which means nothing more than sending your call through your Internet connection instead of through telephone lines. What takes place behind the scenes is complicated, but for you the changes are pretty simple: Yank the phone cord from the jack in the wall and plug it into a port on your computer, install some software, and start saving money. That’s right - SAVE money.

The biggest selling point for VoIP is its lower cost. You save money because your provider is sending your calls over the Internet using software that sends your call along the least congested and least expensive route. They pass these savings along to you. For many, the cost of VoIP for both local and long distance can be less than the cost for local service alone. In addition, you save money directly because calls sent over the Internet are not subject to communication taxes. To see what you can save, check your last telephone bill.

Because your outgoing and incoming calls are now digital, computers can capture, manipulate, and store information about the call. This enables VoIP communication companies to offer more features — such as voicemail, caller ID, call forwarding, and speed dialing - at no additional cost.

For more information about how VoIP can save you money and make your life easier, contact your local carriers.

Free VoIP

Free VoIP is here now, are you prepared for this service? In a matters of minutes you could be set-up and making calls with your free Voip service. Voip is the future for telecommunication, its taking the internet and business communities by storm.

VOIP vs Traditional Telephones

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is the technology of taking audio and transmitting it as data over the Internet. Traditional telephone lines use Circuit Switching, like switchboard operators, which is an electric current. VoIP uses Packet Switching that converts audio into data packets and transfers them over the Internet.

Free Voip being used now!

VoIP is the technology used behind combining Instant Messaging and voice. Many companies are now incorporating free VoIP with their Instant Messaging programs. All that is required is that the group are using the same application. For instance, the new Yahoo Messenger will let you call your friends on the buddies list. All you will need is a microphone and speakers attached to your computer to get free voip experience. MSN, AOL Instant and Yahoo Messengers are all integrating with VoIP. This gives people a taste of free VoIP, before going out and purchasing VoIP services for their homes or offices.

Getting connect to free Voip

It is simple to download any of these free VoIP enabled Instant Messengers. You simply go to their websites, and click on installation/download links for the applications and follow the instructions. You will need speakers and a microphone-and of course, a soundboard. If you would like to incorporate video with your Instant Messaging, you can hook up a small digital camera or web cam. By combining your audio and video with your free Voip Instant Messenger program, you will have a full quality experience.

This is just a precursor of what the future of VoIP will unveil. There are simply a few glitches as 911 and wireless hotspot issues, for the long run, we can tell that by companies incorporating VoIP shows that they at least believe it will be a strong force.

Benefits of Voip

One of the benefits of free VoIP and instant messaging is that it is absolutely free to call anyone, anywhere, worldwide. Companies are that still offer free VoIP programmes like Skype and Ad Calls. These applications will allow you to call using free VoIP programming. Ad Calls will allow you to call a telephone for free. Calls are unlimited and you will be able to make free voip long distance calls in the long run.

VoIP does offer many advantages that aren’t available with land line phones or with cellular. Some of these include the ability to talk with multiple people at once; many of the standard features bundled with normal telephone services come with VoIP packages, and the ability to speak unlimited (many services enable unlimited calling worldwide).

Disadvantage of free Voip service!

However, there are a few disadvantages with Voip. The major one using 911 with VoIP because the call is made from your data network and not a conventional land line. 911 will not be able to trace the phone call made from your free VoIP phone and obtain your address. Also, the operator will not receive any of your location information. FCC has issued rulings pertaining to this. Some options include registering with 911, when you call 911 giving them your location information right away, or keeping a land line telephone or mobile phone available for use in case of an emergency. The latter may be the best solution for enjoying the best of both worlds.

In Conclusion Voice over IP is becoming increasingly popular and powerhouses like AOL and Verizon are offering various packages. Though free VoIP is still a widely popular choice, it is increasingly harder to find. For people who aren’t ready to make the switch, they will continue to take advantage of the options available with instant messaging. As free VoIP continues to grow and more people embrace the technology of combining their telecommunication needs, such as audio, data, E-mail, video and Web services into one applications, VoIP will continue to develop new products and become more readily accessible to business and the general public.

Looking for a Job Using the Net to Win

The Internet offers huge opportunities for a job hunter, but also presents several potential challenges. It also adds great complexities, and a lot more matters to consider…and be wary of.

Job hunting needs to be thought of as a personalized, highly aimed marketing process where you are the product. Your resume is an ad. Your extended network is your source for job information.

So where does the net fit in? At AA-Careers, we recently posted a job on Craigslist and got 600+ applications in a calendar week. For a single opening. That’s increased job hunting competition.

Had a strong candidate gotten ahold of us before we ran the posting, they could have secured the job before having all that competition. How? By knowing an employee at our office who became aware of the job prior to posting. Everyone knew about of the job for at least 8 days before it was posted. Who in your network might know of a job that’s coming available soon?

Be sure to check your cover letter and resume carefully! When we did an analysis of the 650 resumes, we found a large number of errors. 63% of the applicants were easily eliminated with a fast-paced triage process. How? The same way any manager would. By passing over resumes where the objective didn’t match our position description. By passing over candidates whose cover letters gave us causes not to hire them, like "I know I’m overqualified but I really need a job". By eliminating candidates whose documents that didn’t open properly. And by rejecting job hunters who didn’t bother to spell check their cover letter and/or resume.

So the good news is that job sites give you a sense of who is hiring, and for what kinds of jobs. But once those positions are posted, the competition is intense. You can still compete, if you have a well thought out resume, designed to appeal directly and clearly to the recruiter. And if you have practiced interviewing – so you don’t stumble at a critical point.

Another thing to be aware of is how quickly you can be looked up on the internet. As we Googled several candidates, we ran into some MySpace comments that were in questionable taste. Nothing insane, but enough to tilt our thoughts about who to choose.

AA-Careers provides a encompassing set of services for Bay Area job seekers, providing our clients a personal career consultant, a managed job hunting campaign, modern tools like a personal website, video, highly targeted resume, and much more. Let us know if we can help you.

Be careful out there, and good hunting!

Orange Forced To Cancel Price Hike as Customers Quit in Droves

This is one story that can make service providers sit up and take notice. Though not directly related to the sphere of mobile broadband, it has a high degree of relevance for customers who face unjust treatment from service providers.

Orange had recently announced hefty price hikes on data access and out-of-bundle calling for customers on some of its plans. Normally, service providers do this and get away with it due to the contract signed by subscribers, but not this time. A collective protest from subscribers led to the general opinion that the company had violated its own Terms and Conditions. This set a lot of people thinking on the broadband deals by other providers and whether they could switch providers.

Customers were getting the idea that if Orange itself broke the contract, they in their turn were entitled to terminate their connection without any penalty. Matters took a serious turn when website Bitter Wallet published a guide for customers unhappy with the price increase on how to proceed with terminating their contracts with Orange. Subscribers deserted the company in hordes, especially after they found they had no obligation to return the subsidized handsets given to them at the time of taking subscriptions.

Orange sought to stem the tide by initially refusing to allow customers to terminate their contracts, but finally relented and rolled back the price increase it had announced earlier. This just goes on to show what collective action on part of the customers can do to put service providers in their place.

Interesting Developments in ‘2Mb for All’ Plans

2Mb-for-all broadband in three years’ time this sounds like a tall claim coming from communications minister Stephen Carter, who wants to make this a technological feat and rouse Britain’s economy through this initiative.

Satellite and mobile broadband can be introduced to extend the broadband network to places where fixed-line broadband hasn’t reached yet. However, BT has now suggested that 2Mb speed can be attained by speeding up its existing network through simple modifications that range from modest enhancements in home wiring and putting in second lines, to using the new ADSL2+ technology that has the potential for high speed and better coverage.

85 percent of the British population can enjoy the benefits of high-speed broadband through fixed-line connections, says an Ofcom report. Though the percentage may sound impressive, it leaves more than 1 million homes in the UK with disappointingly slow connections. To overcome this speed gap, Kip Meek of the communications ministry is ready to talk with the UK’s mobile broadband providers about expansion of mobile broadband to locations that are still deprived of fixed-line broadband, granting them portions of the broadcast spectrum in return. If mobile broadband interests you, click on pay and go mobile broadband.

However, BT now says that it expects to satisfy 93 percent of the population with its new measures while the remaining 7 percent of UK homes can take recourse to satellite broadband. BT believes mobile broadband cannot address the issue of greater and better network coverage on a long-term basis. It seems the company is troubled by the prospect of mobile broadband taking over fixed line broadband in the near future, as the government had to side with mobile network operators to finally make BT take note of the situation in the interests of the public, and work on measures to expand the reach of its high-speed service.
